Become Your Dogs Leader!

Our objectives in dog obedience training is to provide dog owners with adequate knowledge and skills to successfully train their dog to be well-behaved, balanced, and pleasurable.

Nothing positive will happen if we do not first teach the dog to pay attention to you. This is the primary step to dog obedience. Dogs share along with us a need to develop a degree of order and structure to feel secure. Neither we nor the dog are going to accomplish anything positive without some order and boundaries. This begins with you teaching your dog to pay attention which is taught in lesson #1.

It is very important to understand the make up of our dogs. When we have that background we will be much better prepared to train and direct our dog to fit well into our lifestyle.

Dogs are pack (social) animals and that is why they fit very well into our human lifestyles. In the wild, dogs live within a social structure referred to as a “pack.” The pack is a very social and interactive unit of dogs. They hunt together, play together, sleep together, and virtually do everything together.

In order for any group of animals to survive in nature, there must be order. The pack lends itself to structure and order. Within each pack there is the “alpha dog.” The alpha dog is the dog in charge of the pack. He lays out the boundaries or the rules of order for the pack. The rest of the pack will form a hierarchy of dogs from the more dominant to the less dominant. Every dog member of the pack knows who he must submit to and who he can dominate. There is very little disharmony in the pack because each member of the pack knows exactly his place in the hierarchy. When one member of the pack decides to challenge for a higher position in the pack, there will be conflict which is usually resolved quickly

To successfully train your dog, the dog must have clear boundaries and it must have a leader that will use proven successful methods of training. It is our desire to give you the necessary skills for you to become your dogs leader.
